Quad Cities Interfaith: Who We Are

Quad Cities Interfaith (QCI) is a coalition of congregations and community groups that have come together to build local leadership and address  issues in the Quad Cities region of Illinois and Iowa. QCI is a community of people living out our faith and values to collectively transform our society and bring about justice and human dignity locally and regionally. QCI works to improve the quality of life in our region by developing leaders in congregations and other institutions, so as to introduce our values into public dialogue and speak with a strong, unified voice in the decisions that affect our lives.

Quad Cities Interfaith meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at 15th Avenue Christian Church in Rock Island. You can map directions to 15th Avenue Christian Church by going to: http://www.15thavechristianchurch.org/index.cfmd

QCI Mission and Services

Quad Cities Interfaith (QCI) is a community of people living out our faith and values to collectively transform our society and bring about justice and human dignity locally and regionally. QCI exists to form organizations that empower ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives.

QCI builds local leaders and builds stronger congregations and communities through our training, technical assitance and issue work.

Creating a More Just Society

Quad Cities Interfaith works with local congregations and community organizations on issues that they care about. QCI strengthens congregations, develops local leadership and works to affect positive change in our community. QCI works to create strong congregations and strong communities through:

  • Intentional and intensive relationship-building
  • Developing and involving lay leadership
  • Effectively impacting the public area

Regardless of the specific issues addressed --  immigration, predatory lending, education, economic development, youth leadership development, health care -- the goal is to use the gifts of our people and the resources of our faith to rebuild community and shape a society that is more respectful of the life, dignity and rights of each person.

Issue Task Force : Health Care

QCI advocates universal access to health care in the United States of America.
Health Care Truths & Myths Forum is a Success Posted by admin (2009/10/22)

QCI's Health Care: Truths & Myths Forum that was held earlier this month turned out to be very successful. We had a turnout of over 30 people and there were also a few local news paper reporters. Each of the four panelists that participated, Rabbi Henry Karp, Dr. Keith Soko, Dr. Alta Price, and Dr. Lisa Killinger,  addressed a common myth about the proposed health care reform legislation. After each panelist spoke, the audience members were encouraged to ask questions about health care reform.

The event led to an insightful and very peaceful discussion of the need for health care reform and how we, as a community of faith, support the passing of a public option so that all of our brothers and sisters can have access to affordable and adequate health care.

QCI, in cooperation with 20 other Gamaliel affiliates nationwide, held a Prayerful Action on Immigration on Wednesday, August 11 at the Federal Building in Rock Island, Illinois. 38 clergy and lay leaders from the Presbyterian, American Baptist, United Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ. Lutheran, Unitarian and Catholic denominations gathered together to  pray and make a direct request to the Federal government.

QCI called for the immedaite end to the mass detention and deportation of non criminal immigrants by the US governement. The leaders also called on the President of the United States and Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napalitano, to immedaite end to the 287(g) agreements between the Federal governement and local law enforcment thorughout the US.

To symbolize the families that are torn apart by these immigration enforecement policies, those gathered tore photos of their own families and posted them on two sepater boards. These boards were then presented to our local US Congressman.
